Women jockeys talent showcased at Carlisle

July 20, 2015

On Monday evening 3 August, Carlisle Racecourse will host its annual women jockeys fixture; The Ultimate Ladies Night.. The fixture is unique as it’s the only in the world where all races are confined to female jockeys. Carlisle-jockeys

First introduced in August 2011, just a few weeks after Hayley Turner became the first British lady jockey to win a Group 1 race out right, The Ultimate Ladies Night has been growing year on year. The Carlisle event also delivered Turner her 700th career winner last year riding My Meteor.

Additionally the fixture provides an excellent opportunity for up and coming female jockeys to gain valuable race riding experience. Lucy Alexander is a graduate from the inaugural fixture where she won as an amateur before progressing to the professional ranks and being crowned the first lady champion conditional jockey in 2013 riding 38 winners.

Geraldine McKay, General Manager of Carlisle Racecourse commented; “We are very proud of this fixture as we believe it’s the only fixture in the world whereby all the jockeys are women – and there is a wealth of talent out there.  The event provides an excellent opportunity for jockeys at all levels to showcase their talent and we are looking forward to a cracking renewal this year”.

Advanced booking is advised.  Tickets start at just £25. Visit www.carlisle-races.co.uk or call 0844 579 3002 for information and to book.
