Details: Brand new for 2013 Manchester City Football Club, with the support of British Cycling, have created a charity event like no other called Velocity.On Friday March 22 2013 they will take over the Velodrome at the National Cycling Centre, the home of British Cycling, for 24 hours of non-stop cycling with sporting and celebrity teams. Most importantly, they will be raising valuable funds for charity.
Each team, made up of five riders, will choose their hour between 7pm on Friday March 22 all the way through until 7pm on Saturday 23.
100% of the entrance fee will go to Manchester City FC’s charities, plus any sponsorship raised either to the Club’s charities or the team’s own. Prizes for fundraisers include a one hour session with a London 2012 cyclist at the National Cycling Centre, tickets to the Track Cycling World Cup and signed jerseys from London 2012 medallists and the Manchester City first team.
Dave Brailsford and Roberto Mancini have both lent their support to the event with Dave Brailsford saying it was a great way to celebrate the success of Manchester City and British cycling whilst encouraging people to take up cycling.
“This promises to be an amazing event and one with which everyone who can ride a bike can become involved. Through hard work and a winning mentality, British Cycling and our neighbours at City have enjoyed a lot of success in 2012 and this is a chance for the fans of both sports to come together and celebrate.”
More info: Registrations open on Wednesday December 19 at 9am at which point the team leader needs to pay £100 to reserve the hour. Entrance costs £250 per rider, or £1250 for the whole team of five. All riders must be at least 12 years of age.
