Train Manchester are bringing you what they promise to be ‘competitive fitness for fun’ by introducing their first event of 2013; The CrossFit inov-8 Rainhill Trials.
So what are they? The Trials are a CrossFit competition open to 150 athletes from across the UK of any age and ability, and is the first of its kind to be open to everyone.
A little about the history.
The Rainhill Trials were actually an important competition in the early days of steam locomotive railways - run in October 1829 for the nearly completed Liverpool and Manchester Railway.
When the railway was approaching completion, the directors of it ran a competition to decide whether stationary steam engines or locomotives would be used to pull the trains.
An open contest was then organised that would let them see all the locomotive candidates in action. And this is the inspiration behind today’s competition!
So where does the name ‘inov-8′ come from? inov-8 are a British company sponsoring the event. They manufacture lightweight, innovative products for committed athletes wanting to pursue hardcore workouts and run fast on all terrains. Perfect for such a competition.
The CrossFit workouts will be based on heats that will eventually leave one man and one woman declared as champion in each of the three categories; Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced.
There are places for 60 women in the competition so don’t miss out! For more info about the competition head to our ‘What’s On’ pages.
