Cycling: Cooke and Vision 1 Racing finish strongly at Fleche Wallonne
Vision 1 Racing put in a strong team performance spearheaded by Nicole Cooke’s 6th place finish at Fleche Wallonne, the women’s road race established in 1998.
Cooke finished 21 seconds behind the overall winner, Marianne Vos, who denied Vision 1 Racing’s premier rider the opportunity to record her fourth victory in the event while the Dutch Woman powered her way to her third successive title.
The event saw a return to competition for Vision 1’s Helen Wyman who had sustained a knee injury at the World Cyclo X Championships in January.
Helen combined with fellow team rider Christel Ferrier Bruneau to aid Nicole Cooke’s push for a medal. The result represents a big step forward for the team that is in its debut year of competition.
Stefan Wyman, Vision 1 Racing’s Team Manager, said that the team is “continually improving in strength and depth and we are looking forward to this showing in our results over the rest of the season.”
Nicole Cooke shared the same sentiments suggesting that, while she lacked the legs to match Vos in the latter stages of the race, she was “pleased with how Vision 1 rode as a team.”
