Injury blow for heptathlete Jessica Ennis

British Olympic medal hopeful Jessica Ennis had to withdraw from the heptathlon at the Hypo Meeting in Austria at the weekend.

She suffered a reoccurrence of an ankle injury that had been bothering her during training in the run up to the event. It is a big blow for the 22 year old just ten weeks ahead of this summer’s games in Beijing.

Ennis was lying second to Russia’s Anna Bogdanova after four of the seven events when she decided to withdraw on Saturday evening.

After flying straight back to the UK she will have a scan today which will reveal the full extent of the damage. Bu Ennis is optimistic, saying her withdrawal was just a ‘precaution’ and that she will be fit for Beijing.
