Ironman: Chrissie Wellington may take up cycling for 2012
The triple World Ironman Triathlon champion Chrissie Wellington has revealed that she is considering a switch to cycling to try to qualify for the London Olympics.
The 32 year old cemented her place in the record books on Saturday when she not only won her third successive title but also broke the 17 year old course record in the process.

Her time of 8 hours 54 min 02 sec pipped Ironman legend Paula Newby-Fraser’s course best 8:55.28 set back in 1992 across the grueling 2.4 mile swim, 112-mile cycle ride and 26.2 mile run.
However Ironman Triathlon is not an Olympic distance so in order to compete in 2012 Wellington is exploring her options.
She said: “Olympic distance triathlon requires a completely different skill set.
“That’s not to say I won’t give 2012 a shot, either in triathlon or another sport, maybe bike racing.
“I’ve got three years, at the moment I want to concentrate on Ironman, but if we think that there’s a chance I could make it on to a British team of course that’s something I’d go for.
“The Olympics is the highlight of any professional athlete’s career but my Hawaii victory means so much to me.”
