Craft Cool Boxer

Cool is dam right. These boxers, specifically designed for women are padded so you can wear your normal shorts or jeans while still getting the comfort of your normal cycling get-up. Perfect for if you are doing a lot of city riding and don’t perhaps want to embrace the lycra look. If you do a decent length commute and don’t want to annihilate your nether region but still want to look ‘normal’ then these are definitely for you.

CRAFT - Cool Bike Boxer

I haven’t tried these out yet so can’t vouch for the other things they promise, such as ‘antimacrobial qualities’ whatever they are, but they look pretty good to me and I’ve no doubt will be infinitely more beneficial that a thong.

Sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL

Colours: black, white, surf, coral

Price: £25 (we’ve seen them for £20)

Red or Dead & Raleigh: Ride with Care, Pedal with Flare!

“Ride with Care, Pedal with Flare!” is what Red or Dead say. They’re not wrong. Their new range of bikes, created in association with raleigh certainly do have ‘flare’ by the bucketload.

With 3 bikes to choose from and matching helmets available these wheels are aimed at the discerning female commuter or weekend ambler. Being Raleigh manufactured the bikes have everything you might need in a decent commuter bike, or for just general cruising (or sitting on a metal flower?).

Available exclusively from Evans this bike could be just the thing for you if you’re keen to get started in cycling and you want to do it with a bang!

"Seaspray" - £399.99

filles a velo: coffee cake and cycle chat

I recently discovered Leigh Marshall’s website - filles a velo. Leigh set up the site to enhance the community of women cyclists in Scotland. Featuring blogs, events info, reviews and interviews this is a great site for any female cyclist.

http://filles-a-velo.com

‘Coffee, cake and cycle chat’ features mostly Scottish female riders exploring who they are, why they ride. I particularly like fifteen year old Yuka Gallagher’s post. She is clearly a classy girl as she also highly rates Anna Glowinski’s gloves (Anna also has a feature post on the site) AND is a big fan of one of my favourite events ever, the Etape Caledonia.

The Adidas Not so Evil Eye: new evil eye halfrim pro from adidas eyewear

I had half written this blog before I’d even tried adidas’ new evil eye halfrim pro sunglasses. The post went something along the lines of ‘you look like a tool in these types of glasses – how can they possibly have won a design award?’

The Adidas evil eye halfrim pro - stylish?

However, that post will never see the light of day because these glasses are, simply brilliant. Three days of riding in the hot spanish sunshine with up to 6 hours in the saddle put these glasses to the test and for the first time in my cycling life my eyes have not dried out, I did not fear I was going to loose a contact lens as I screamed down long sweeping descents, my vision was not compromised by condensation, my head did not endure an increasingly vice like squeeze curtesy of the arms, and the frames didn’t slip down my nose.

OK, so perhaps I did look like a little bit of a geek but then cycling gear has its own special category to which normal style rules do not apply anyway.

What happened when Bobbin met Globe?

Bobbin Bicycles, the quirky vintage-style bicycle boutique, has joined forces with contemporary brand Globe Bikes in a brand new store in Islington, London. Sportsister went along to the opening last night and I’m pleased to report it’s a triumph!

For two brands with quite different aesthetics it may not seem like an obvious pairing, but they have made this union work. Apparently the two found a common interest in urban utility cycling: how to haul people and stuff around on two wheels with efficiency and grace. Through brainstorming sessions, staff from both camps have explored and defined a retail space where tweed is too twee, vintage too heavy and hybrids too boring.

As well as the range of Globe bikes, which start around the £400 mark, there’s also some kit, clothing and luggage on offer. The store is decorated with fantastic images depicting the hip East London cycle scene and they have made a great video too which you can check out below.

Pay them a visit at: 23 Arlington Way, London, EC1R 1UY. Web: www.bobbinbicycles.co.uk/globebikes

Open: Tuesday to Sunday

It’s just round the corner from the Bobbin Bicycles store.
