Hi - I would love to see anything on martial arts. I currently train and teach karate and its a great sport for women, as you don’t have to be bulky or particularly strong. Its good for cardio and toning as well as a real confidence booster and self-defence.
Any nutrition advise on keeping energy levels up for a high impact session would be really helpful too. I am taking my dan grading (black belt) in September and will be too nervous to eat much during the day - but will have to maintain my energy levels for a high impact exam! Any information on these energy drinks on the market would be useful - I’ve always thought they were a bit of a marketing gimmick, but would be interested to know if there is more to them.
thanks for the message Lorna, we certainly hope to speak to some martial arts athletes about their sport and will make a note to commission a ’getting started’ guide. Great suggestions and sounds really interesting.
With regards the energy drinks/bars/gels it would certainly seem that hey are widely used by the elite athletes on the recommendation of the BOA nutritionists. Which I guess is a as good a recommendation as there is, but obviously there are so many on the market and it is hard to know which ones are really good. Again a great suggestion and we will definitely do a feature on this too - so look out for it!
Thanks for the great suggestions and support for sportsister.
