Kickstarter campaign launched for Women’s Sports Film Festival

June 22, 2017

Nearly 500 people attended the first Women’s Sports Film Festival last July 2016 (Oakland, California). The event ran over three days and showed 17 short and feature length documentaries about women and girls from four continents playing 11 sports. This year’s festival aims to be bigger and better and to acheive this, it’s just gone live on Kickstarter.

There are a growing number of compelling sports documentaries about female athletes, many directed by talented female directors, yet it is still rare to see these films on the big screen. The festival puts these films centre stage and explores how sport shapes the lives of women and girls around the world.

The campaign will help fund the festival–which will return to Oakland, California on September 28th, 29th and 30th, 2017 with a full slate of films and panel discussions. Over 50 independent filmmakers have submitted short and feature-length documentaries for consideration, deposits have been placed on theaters, hotel rooms have been reserved and guest speakers are being vetted. Your support will get the project to the finish line.
