Tried and tested: Velocity Climber Urban Cycle Shorts

July 12, 2016

Velocity create stylish, yet functional clothes that you can wear on and off your bike. The kit includes plenty of well thought through, but discreet cycling specific features so you can ride around, smug in the knowledge that you are more comfortable than people would ever know! We tested the Climber Short.

I’m a keen touring and commuting cyclist, so these shorts are definitely up my street. I love the styling, length and details, and they work well for most of my riding. The fabric has a tiny bit of stretch (2%) which is barely noticeable combined with the heavy duty cotton, but I am confident they will wear in with use. It’s worth pointing out that the fabric has a NanoSphere® treatment, which makes it water and stain resistant.

Details include a reinforced diamond seat (meaning no uncomfortable seams in the saddle), phone sized pockets, heavy duty belt loops for carrying things, and reflective trims. The cut is designed to sit low at the front and higher at the back for comfort on the bike.

Plus points:
– Great urban design
– Really sturdy fabric
– Neat detailing
– Made in the UK

Minus points:
– On the small side, so you need to size-up
– If you did want to ride further you may want to consider wearing a liner short with cycle padding.
