National Go Canoeing Week is back – join in!

For those looking to try a new activity, National Go Canoeing Week is back! With a host of canoeing and kayaking activities on offer, the Olympic inspired British Canoeing initiative will be taking place this year from Saturday 28th May – Sunday 5th June.

To add to the fun of the week in this Olympic year, British Canoeing is challenging the nation to paddle as many miles as possible and log them on the National Go Canoeing Week website, contributing toward the collective target of 30,000 miles. With a whole range of sporting events and activities on offer from over 400 clubs and centres across the United Kingdom, there will be something for everyone.

Those unfamiliar with the sport can get a real feel for what paddling is all about with the Starter Sessions available at each location. For more experienced canoeists who prefer the reassurance of someone in the know leading the way, guided tours are also available and all miles contribute towards the overall target. All equipment is provided and with the added bonus of burning up to 400 calories per session, plus the additional core and bicep training, it’s an ideal workout!

As a low impact yet high cardiovascular activity, it’s a great choice for those with previous sporting injuries looking to get their heart racing without the risk of damage to knees and ligaments that other sports can bring.

There are one, three or six mile Challenge Paddles available, as well as the opportunity for visitors to make up their own mini water adventure.
