Event to watch: European Archery Championships, Nottingham

April 12, 2016

This coming May, hundreds of top archers from across the continent will gather in Nottingham as Archery GB hosts the European Archery Championship, in association with The Nottingham Building Society. The seven-day tournament will be the first time that the UK has hosted the event since 1978.

The championship will take place at two locations in the city, commencing with the qualification and elimination rounds at the University of Nottingham’s Highfields playing fields from 23-27 May. The head-to-head finals will then be hosted in a 1,500 spectator purpose-built archery arena in the heart of the city in Old Market Square on the weekend of 28-29 May.

David Harrison, Chairman of the sport’s governing body, Archery GB, commented: “The tournament will give residents of Nottingham and those from further afield the opportunity to watch world-class athletes compete, just months before the Rio 2016 Olympics. In particular, the head-to-head finals are sure to win over the crowds with nail-biting shoot-offs and fantastic skills on show. It will be terrific to have a large home crowd rooting for Archery GB’s athletes as they tackle one of the last tournaments for European archers to win places at Rio 2016.”
