This weeks sports news features an excellent performance by the England Cricket team to reach the semi-finals of the World Twenty20. Elsewhere, Johanna Konta has reached the quarter finals of the Miami open, a new women’s record was set in the Devizes to Westminster 125 mile canoe race and Oxford won the second Boat Race on the tideway.
Cricket: England reach semi-finals of ICC Women’s World Twenty20
England set-up a semi-final encounter with Australia at the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 after finishing top of Group B following a commanding 68-run win over Pakistan in Chennai. Full story via SkySports
Tennis: Johanna Konta reaches Miami Open quarter-finals
Johanna Konta became the first British woman to reach the quarter-finals of the Miami Open as she beat Romania’s Monica Niculescu 6-2 6-2. Heather Watson’s run in the Miami Open came to an end in the fourth round with a 6-3 6-4 defeat by Simona Halep. Full story via the BBC
Athletics: World Half Marathon Championships
Kenya took a second successive clean sweep at the World Half Marathon Championships in Cardiff. Alyson Dixon was the top Briton, clocking 72:57 for 27th. Full story via Athletics Weekly
Canoeing: New women’s record in the International Devizes to Westminster canoe race
Kat Burbeck and Alex Lane set a new women’s record of 18.00.46 and finished second overall in the annual 125 mile Devizes to Westminster canoe race. This is the highest placing for an all-female crew since the event, called the canoeists ‘Everest’, began in 1948.
Boat Race:Oxford win second tideway event
The oarswomen of Oxford and Cambridge had to battle through stormy water on Sunday in an eventful contest in which Oxford took the 71st race by 71 seconds and Cambridge finished despite struggling to stay afloat. Full story via The Telegraph
