Sam Cook (pictured middle), 28 from Bristol met up with Drew Sullivan and 10 x Jiu Jitsu World Champion Roger Gracie at the launch of the London leg of The Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiu-Jitsu World Tour.

Sam Cook learnt to fight at Checkmat BJJ Bristol and became hooked quickly.

“I was into horse-riding as a teenager but now I just compete and train in between doing physiotherapy to make ends meet. My fitness levels are great and the camaraderie from those within the sport is amazing I have made friends for life.”

And looking ahead to Saturday’s competition,

“I am competing in the -70kg brown/black belt division. The prize money for first place is $2,000 so there is plenty of incentive for me there!”

The fourth and final Grand Slam event in the 2015/16 season takes place on Saturday March 19, 2016. Previous Grand Slams have been held in Tokyo, Los Angeles and Rio with London being the final and most prestigious leg of the World Tour.
