January 14, 2016

Merino wool base layers have been growing in popularity over the past few years and despite their price tag, are loved and appreciated by anyone who loves long-lasting and hard working classic sportswear. Now we’re seeing Merino wool being used for everything from underwear to coats, so we’ve pulled together a a round-up of our favourites.

Icebreaker Victory Long Sleeve Zip – £120.00

This zip-through top from Merino experts Icebreaker feels like a best friend from the minute you put it on. Designed as a performance midlayer, it is made from 200gm terry merino that is great for a multitude of uses. The cut is slim, although generous at the same time and the fabric is soft and comfy. The Victory’s high fit collar is very versatile too and makes it a great insulating piece under a shell. We love this, although it is on the luxury-end price wise!

This colour-blocked version from Howies ticks all the boxes for us – it’s sporty, the detailing is simple but stylish and the flatlocked seams and shaped armholes add extra comfort, plus the fabric is high quality, fast wicking and itch-free.
