Go hiking in the city with Regatta

October 21, 2015

Regatta’s resident adventure expert Anja Phoenix has recently created the first ever Urban Hiking Adventure in central London, highlighting the capital’s hidden beauty and unexpected neighbourhood havens. Based on her successful Tale Trails, Anja has created the perfect way to explore London, merging health and fitness with Regatta’s style and functionality.

Anja’s trail has taken the increasingly popular American pastime and given it a British twist with Regatta’s Urban Hike: Secret Cities.

The 5km route captures the city’s rich heritage, starting and finishing at the historic Covent Garden tube station. The area is steeped in culture, having witnessed everything from Celtic history to modern tourism, and remains a world-class cultural and retail site.

Using some of London’s hidden alleyways, the route winds through beautiful courtyards such as Neal’s Yard and travels to Trafalgar Square. The trail explores some of the more open spaces around the area and returns to Covent Garden via narrow paths and bygone lanes.

I went along to try out part of the trail and thought it was brilliant – meandering through quiet, hidden pockets of Covent Garden that I’d never seen before, despite having been to the area many times. Urban Hiking helps you discover your city all over again and get a sense of the extraordinary in places you thought you knew – unexpected adventure that anyone can enjoy.

Anja says: ‘Urban Hiking is a growing trend all over the world and I’m proud to launch London’s first ever trail with Regatta. Exploring the city in this way will provide local residents and tourists with its rich history whilst helping them to maintain an active, healthy lifestyle. Adventures come in all shapes and sizes, so whether you are getting away from your desk at lunchtime, exploring your surroundings or getting fit, I encourage you to download the trail and unearth your secret city.’

London marks the beginning of Regatta’s nationwide Urban Hiking Adventure series, with more launching across the country next year.
