Dame Sarah Storey made a valiant attempt at the women’s Hour Record, Ireland beat England in the 6Nations rugby and Lizzy Yarnold aims for her first World Championship title.
Rugby 6 nations:
France 28 - Wales 7: A commanding performance in front of a near capacity crowd, saw France take another step towards back-to-back Grand Slams and retaining their Six Nations title. Full story via ScrumQueens
Ireland 11 - 8 England: Just over six months after England Women lifted the World Cup, the Irish repeated their world champion beating feat with a narrow 11 points to eight win over the Red Roses in Ashbourne. Full story via RBS6Nations
Scotland 8 - Ireland 31: Italy had an emphatic win over a Home Nations opponent after they beat Scotland Women away at Cumbernauld’s Broadwood Stadium on the outskirts of Glasgow on Sunday. Full story via RBS6Nations
Women’s Rugby World Cup: Ireland have submitted a bid to host the Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2017.
The Irish RFU said on Monday that venues in Dublin and Belfast would be used, with the final to be staged at Ulster’s redeveloped Kingspan Stadium. Full story via the BBC
Cycling: Dame Sarah Storey has fallen just short in her attempt to set a new women’s Hour Record, completing 45.502km and falling short of the existing mark by 563m. Although missing out on the overall record, Storey did set new British, Paralympic and masters standards. Full story via Cycling Weekly
Skeleton: Lizzy Yarnold says she is determined to get her hands on the one title that has eluded her when she makes the trip to Winterberg for the World Championships this week (6 March).
The Olympic skeleton champion has a long list of accolades to her name so far in her career but has yet been unable to take a world title – bronze in 2012 the best she has been able to muster. Full story via Team GB
IPC athletics Grand Prix: Maria Lyle and Jo Butterfield broke IPC world records in the T35 200m and F51 discus respectively on the final day of IPC Athletics Grand Prix action in Dubai. Full Story via Athletics Weekly
