British number one female tennis player Heather Watson has been drawn against Romania’s Sorana Cirstea in the first round of the US Open which starts 25 August.

Watson, 22, recently jumped world rankings to 45 in the world and could play Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard in round two.

Compatriot Johanna Konta, who qualified for the main draw on ranking for the first time, is set to play Israel’s Shahar Peer, whilst former British number one Laura Robson will miss the final Grand Slam of the year as she continues to recover from a wrist injury.

The 20 year old has completed just one match in 2014 back in January when she was defeated by Kirsten Flipkens at the Australian Open.
