Thursday’s highlights centre around the athletics stadium where Scotland’s Eilidh Child, the poster girl of the games, secured a silver medal and England won a silver and bronze in the 200m.
Athletics: Cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd, Scotland’s Eilidh Child secured silver in the women’s 400m hurdles. Child, who also won silver in Delhi four years ago, ran a strong race and came home in 55.02 seconds. Jamaicas Kaliese Spencer won convincingly.
In the 200m there were surprise medals for England’s Jodie Williams and Bianca Williams, who took silver and bronze behind Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare.
Lawn Bowls: England beat Australia to win gold in the lawn bowls women’s triples. The trio of Sophie Tolchard, Ellen Falkner and Sian Gordon won the first end 5-0 and never looked back as they ran out 22-4 winners.
Cycling road time trial: England’s Emma Pooley won a silver medal in what will be the last time trial before she retires to take up triathlon. Despite being up on the clock with 6km to go, New Zealand’s Linda Villumsen put in a strong finish to claim the gold.
Gymnastics: The home nations continued their success with England’s Rebecca Downie taking a second gold in the uneven bars with Ruby Harrold the bronze.
In the women’s vault, Claudia Fragapane scored a combined 14.633 from her two vaults to beat Elsabeth Black of Canada into second and take her third gold medal.
