Commonwealth Games: Day six highlights
In a day of silver medals in athletics, wrestling and swimming and shooting the highlight moment for the home nations has to go to the England gymnastics team for their gold medal.
Shooting: Jen McIntosh succeeded mother Shirley as Scotland’s most decorated female in Commonwealth Games history with silver in the 50m rifle three positions. The 23-year-old also won bronze in the 50m rifle prone on Monday and claimed two golds and a bronze in Delhi.
Gymnastics: Rebecca Downie, Claudia Fragapane, Ruby Harrold, Hannah Whelan and Kelly Simm held off Australia to win gold, with Wales putting in a superb display for bronze.
Swimming: Wales’ Georgia Davies took gold and a British record in the women’s 50m backstroke ahead of England’s Lauren Quigley and Canada’s Brooklyn Snodgrass.
Just minutes before Jazz Carlin of Wales added a silver medal to her gold in the 400m freestyle.
Mountain Biking: Annie Last of England took fourth place in the mountain bike cross-country race, with first-year British Cycling Academy Programme athlete Alice Barnes recording her best-ever result in fifth.
Wrestling: England’s Yana Rattigan took silver in the women’s freestyle 48kg at the Commonwealth Games, losing 11-8 to Vinesh of India in the final.
Athletics: There were two silvers for England’s women in the stadium, first up England’s Laura Samuel claimed silver in the triple jump with a 14.09m leap - 34cm further than her previous personal best, and more than half a metre further than she had jumped this year.
On the track Laura Weightman took a well deserved silver medal in the 1,500 metres after a gritty last 200 metres which saw her pull past Hellen onsando Obiri of Kenya and hold off Kate Van Buskirk of Canada. Faith chepngetich Kibiegon of Kenya took the gold.
