A Different Side of Ibiza: Tekne Fitness [Day Three]

Day three is here and the cravings are kicking in. Carbs, sugar, caffeine - I want it all. But it’s pushing through this barrier that will ultimately help to kick these bad habits altogether. After all i’ve functioned perfectly well, (and even managed intense weight training and fitness) on a low-carb, no-sugar diet. A treat breakfast of an omelete, spinach, smoked salmon and mushrooms helped me feel satisfied and got me ready for the morning workout.

We mixed it up this morning with a session of gymnastics in the sunshine after our jog. We worked our cores with some beam work, and realised it’s much harder than it was when we were seven. Then we took to the trampoline. This was an incredible way to energise early in the morning and get endorphins and adrenaline coursing through your system. My old muscle memory kicked in as I flung myself around trying out seat-drops, back-drops and swivel-hips.

After this we headed to the outdoor gym where our personal trainer Tom put us through a push-pull weight session focusing on our backs, shoulders and upper-body strength. A welcome respite after pounding our legs yesterday in the gym and on a hilly cycle.

With TRX, olympic bars, kettle bells and medicine balls - Tom had an arsenal of kit to devise a really gruelling circuit. And with the sun beating down we were sweating in minutes. The circuit was brilliant in that it pushed you to your limit and really helped you to build on your strength. No matter how much you could lift, Tom made sure to adept the exercise so that it was a personal challenge for you and you could mark your progression.

Lunch was a delicious pea soup, with sun-dried tomatoes, a sprinkling of bacon cubes and a sliver of manchego cheese. Utterly delicious. I’m constantly surprised at how satisfied I am by this simple, nutritious food - after exercise I tend to nail the carbs, but this is proving to me that we don’t need to.

After three days of battering our bodies we had a well-earned rest this afternoon with intensive massages from local specialists. They worked their magic to release the tension in our muscles. I’m almost ready for tomorrow’s challenges.
