A Different Side of Ibiza: Tekne Fitness [Day Two]

Day two of the fitness camp and the sun has come out in earnest. My delight quickly evaporated when I realised that makes the training sessions that bit harder. I’m absolutely blown away by the peace and tranquility that can be found in the party capital of Europe.
The morning consisted of a jog around the villa just after the sun had risen. There was a cool breeze and the stunning views were a perfect way to wake up on a Monday morning. Slightly nicer than my commute on the northern line. Then it was yoga and stretching followed by a delicious breakfast.
This is one of the best things about the Tekne retreat. The food is fantastic. I had been told horror stories about fitness camps and being held in a state of semi-starvation, being given three almonds to last the morning. But Des at Tekne has a truly healthy and sustainable approach to fitness.
Most of the ingredients are sourced on the island, with fresh fruits, vegetables and grains grown in the neighbouring fields to the villa. It doesn’t get much fresher than that. Breakfast was fresh muesli with rasberries and banana, followed by mid-morning snack of homemade ginger-infused hummous. Lunch was fresh chicken breast with garlic broccoli and roast sweet potato and a dinner of a warm lentil and asparagus salad. With fruit, water and herbal teas available all day you’re not going to be going hungry. And the food really fuels you for the day.
The afternoon consisted of a bike ride with options to ride tandem, or do shorter or longer routes depending on your capability. There really is an option for all levels of fitness and ages.
I’m already looking forward to dinner - not out of starvation, but because I know it’s going to be delicious!
