FAWSL: Lucy Bronze named PFA Player of the Year

England defender Lucy Bronze, 22, has been named as the Professional Footballers’ Association’s Female Player of the Year. Bronze plays club football for Liverpool in the FA Women’s Super League.
Bronze led Liverpool to the FA WSL title last season. She had previously played for perennial US collegiate power North Carolina, where she starred in defense.
Liverpool’s Natasha Dowie and Nicole Rolser, last year’s winner Kim Little, and Arsenal pair Siobhan Chamberlain and Jordan Nobbs were also up for the award.
Women are allowed the join the players’ union for the first time this season. Bronze’s Liverpool teammate Martha Harris, 19, was named Young Player of the Year.
In more good news for British women’s football, Wales captain Jess Fishlock was also named Australian W-League Player of the Year this weekend. The award, given by the Football Media Association, honoured Fishlock’s leadership after a championship season with the Melbourne Victory.
