Cycling: Lizzie Armitstead keeps hold of World Cup lead

Britain’s Lizzie Armitstead retained her lead in the World Cup by finishing second in the women’s Fleche Wallone race in Belgium.
The 25 year old was beaten by France’s Pauline Ferrand-Prevot, while Elisa Longo Borghini of Italy was in third, fellow Briton Emma Pooley, who won the race in 2010, finished seventh in her first race of the year.
It was the third consecutive time that Olympic silver medallist Armitstead had finished in second place after opening the season with a win in the Ronde van Drenthe.
With five races remaining, the Yorkshire cyclist, who also claimed the runners-up spot in the Trofeo Alfredo Binda and the Tour of Flanders, increased her overall lead over Sweden’s Emma Johansson.
