Football: London Bees win first FAWSL 2 match

In the first ever FA Women’s Super League match, London Bees beat Oxford United by 3-0 thanks to goals from Lucy Loomes, Amber Gaylor and Billie Brooks.
The hosts, Oxford United, started well with a strong shot at goal by Lauren Allison, but it was blocked by goalkeeper Sophie Harris. Kayleigh Hines attempted to return the rebound, but missed by inches.
The first goal came from Lucy Loomes at 27 minutes with a strike which flew into the corner despite the efforts of keeper Demi Lambourne.
Despite another couple of strong shots from Lauren Allison and Holly Pickett, Oxford united found themselves 2-0 down thanks to a goal by Amber Gaylor.
Billie Brooks rounded off the scoring with an 88th minute freekick, Oxford United manager Les Taylor was left to rue his side’s missed chances.
“The scoreline was harsh, but every credit to London. They hit the target, if you do that you have a chance of scoring,” he said.
For London Bees it was a strong start that has boosted the teams confidence, manager Tom Donati said, “We’ve got three goals and a clean sheet, the girls are buzzing now”.
