Tired of the same old run around the park?
Creative running events are spreading like crazy throughout Britain - check out these super-fun runs that add some extra colour and dazzle to race day.
Electric Run
What: Run a 5k course over illuminated ‘lands’ of light and sound. It’s a ‘healthy rave’, full of neon trees, glowing arches, lasers, music, and other effects. Join in on the show with glow sticks and LEDs as you run through the ‘electric wonderland.’
Where/When: The Electric Run will be held in four cities in 2014:

Beat the Banana
What: Chase a banana on a 5k course around Hyde Park. Sounds mad? It is, and it’s all in support of the World Cancer Research Fund.
When: Thursday, 15 May 2024 at 6.30pm (another run will be held in September)
Where: Hyde Park, London
Entry: £12 entry fee; £100 minimum sponsorship
Perks: Free t-shirt, medal, and goody bag for every runner

Color Run
What: Start wearing white clothing and get dosed in colours as you run the 5k course. The run has its origins in the Hindu Holi Festival of love and colour, and is designed to celebrate healthiness and community. It’s messy, it’s colourful, and it’s officially ‘The Happiest 5k on the Planet.’
Where/When: The Color Run will be held in 6 different UK cities in 2014:

Beat Beethoven
What: Take the challenge to run 5k (or walk 2.7k) in less time than it takes for the organiser’s to play Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony—about 34 minutes. Can you beat the maestro? Dun dun dun dun…

Where: University of Stirling
Entry: £10 for individuals/£20 for families; Sponsorship is encouraged

Santa Dash
What: Don your festive apparel and fa-la-la over any number of 5k runs. It’s never too early to start thinking about Christmas… right?
