Cricket: Katherine Brunt undergoes back surgery for the second time

England women’s fast bowler Katherine Brunt has undergone surgery on her back for the second time.
The surgery, carried out on Wednesday, was intended to relieve Brunt’s symptoms associated with a chronic disc bulge, which can include severe pain and fatigue.
“It became a real issue just before the Ashes,£ she said. “I got through the Ashes series just about in one piece. It was a real, real struggle to play anywhere near my best cricket.
“I was probably going at about 70 per cent but I got through it, which was great and then after that I had to take quite a big break to make myself fit in time for this Ashes coming.”
Brunt is expected to make a full recovery and return to competitive cricket in time for this year’s Ashes series.
