In a groundbreaking and unprecedented move for women’s cycling, all nine races in the UCI Women Road World Cup are to be broadcast worldwide in 2014.

The broadcasts are produced by UK-based VSquared TV Limited and have attracted high-profile takers around the globe. The BBC will provide television coverage in the UK, and broadcasts will also be available online via the UCI YouTube channel.

The UCI Women Road World Cup kicks off in the Netherlands on this Saturday, 15 March, with the Boels Rental Ronde van Drenthe. Fans will be able to tune in that evening for a round-up of the day’s action. News and highlights will also be aired for the following eight World Cup races.

Six additional special features profiling the stories of elite female cyclists will air throughout the season.

UCI President Brian Cookson welcomed this important step to increase the visibility of women’s cycling and women’s sport.

‘This is an exciting and positive year for women’s cycling.

With the launch in 2014 of La Course by Le Tour de France on the last day of the Tour de France and now this increased visibility of our leading professional women’s cycling series, it is clear that real momentum is building’, he said.

Since his election to the Presidency last September, Cookson has led the UCI in developing and raising the profile of women’s cycling. The enhanced broadcast coverage follows the creation of the UCI Women’s Commission. At least one woman now also sits on every other UCI Commission.

Further details of the 2014 Women Road World Cup and a trailer of the series are available on the UCI website.
