Sochi 2014 Paralympics: Meet the GB Curling team
The Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games start today (fri 7). Want to know who’s going to be out there competing for Paralympics GB? There are eight women in the team and in this second article we introduce the Curling team who start their medal campaign on Saturday 8 March when they face Canada.
Wheelchair Curling made it’s debut in the Winter Paralympics in Turin 2006. Unlike the Olympic discipline the teams are mixed, with the GB team made up of two women and four men. The only difference between Wheelchair Curling and the non- disabled equivalent is that sweeping – brushing the ice in front of the stone to change its course – is not part of the Paralympic sport.
Aileen Neilson
This will be Aileen’s second Paralympic Winter Games. She made her Paralympic debut at the 2010 Vancouver Games, where the team finished in 6th place.
Aileen also became the first female athlete to skip a team in World Championship competition, and she led Team Scotland to a silver medal at the 2011 World Championships.
