Badminton: Chris and Gabby Adcock through at All England Championships

Married mixed doubles pair Chris and Gabby Adcock are through to the second round of the Yonex All England Championships at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena.

The fifth seeds defeated Indonesia’s Irfan Fadhilah and Weni Anngrainni 21-9 17-21 21-14, and will now face German pair Peter Kaesbauer and Isabel Herttrich in the second round.

“We hadn’t played that pair before, but we’ve seen a lot of video of them and knew they would be a tough pair, but we are glad to get through the first round,” said Gabby afterwards.

“It’s important you don’t doubt yourself. We’ve lost a lot of second games before and come back in the third so we were confident of doing that again.

“It’s nice to be able to get a feel of the hall, but now we need to relax and focus on the next game.”
