Cycling: Laura Trott ready to retain title at World Track Championships

Great Britain cyclist Laura Trott insists she will be going all out to retain her omnium title at this week’s World Track Championships in Columbia, warning her fellow competitors she feels stronger than ever.
The 21 year old first won omnium World Championship gold in Melbourne 2012, but finished second behind America’s Sarah Hammer last year.
And while the long-term focus is on peaking for Rio in 2016, two-time Olympic champion Trott admits winning the rainbow jersey back is a major motivation.
“It’s massive for me,” said Trott. ”If you speak to (British Cycling head coach) Shane Sutton he’ll be like ‘oh it doesn’t matter this year’.
“For me it is a personal target. I want to get that jersey in the omnium. I want to get it back.
“This year it’s gone so much more smoothly. I just feel so good in myself. I feel that much stronger. I’m hoping for good things.”
The five-day championships begins today, 26 February in Cali, Columbia.
