Sportsister loves: Donna & Tora
I’ve never entertained the idea of buying an exercise video, I couldn’t imagine that it would work for me and despite being sent several to review over the years I have always passed them on to someone else to test. I’ll be honest, I always imagined that they were aimed solely at the ‘weight-loss’ end of the market, which is not where I see myself - I exercise because I enjoy it, weight-loss is a just one of many positive benefits.
So why did I love Donna & Tora’s toned in 25? Well, maybe LOVE is a little strong, but my outlook has changed. Although I am perfectly capable of getting myself to a circuits class and easily motivated to go for a run or cycle; I, like many working mums have very little spare time. So the prospect of of a work-out taking just 25 mins with no time spent traveling to and from a class was quite appealing.
I am currently running a couple of times a week, but I know that in order to get better all-round fitness and strength, that is not enough - so maybe this video workout could be the solution.
Donna and Tora’s website doesn’t at first glance look like my kind of thing, but on closer inspection I realised that their credentials were impressive. It’s also true to say that I wouldn’t mind being as toned and healthy looking as they are!
So, I set myself up in the kitchen (most suitable floor surface), waited till the house was empty and got started.
Tora, an ex-international triathlete leads the class. Donna, who has transformed herself from overweight and unhealthy, to fit and fab follows behind, grinning in a ‘naughty girl at the back of the class’ way!
The class was simple to follow, easy to pick-up (well apart from the 3 step side to side which I had to do with my eyes shut to stop me getting confused) and well balanced. Each section starts with a warm-up or run though of the exercises, followed by 3 minutes of work and a rest before the next set.
The on-screen count-down clock is great for motivation and kept me working right through to the finish.
At the end, it all felt a bit short and I wanted to keep going. Being a seasoned athlete I am used to a decent work-out being at least 45 minutes. But equally it was great to have have taken up so little of my day. The second attempt was better - knowing the ropes and recognising just how short 25 minutes is I worked a lot harder, and felt more satisfied at doing so.
I will definitely keep using it - I can’t say for how long…we all know how hard it is to stay motivated at home, but it’s a good, no-nonsense work-out that fits in well with my running and cycling.
The only difficulty I now face is keeping curious teenagers and a very bouncy dog out of the kitchen while I work-out. No easy task!
