Cricket: England are ready for West Indies tour
England’s women are currently in the West Indies ready to begin their winter tour programme that includes a Twenty20 tri-series against West Indies and New Zealand in Barbados, before a three-match one-day international series against the West Indies in Trinidad.
The tour begins tomorrow, Monday 14 October, with the hosts taking on New Zealand, but England will have to wait until Wednesday for their first match when it will be their turn to take on the White Ferns.
England do however go into the tour with a fairly inexperienced team, losing some of their star players to injury.
Opener Heather Knight, who was England’s player of the series as they lifted the women’s Ashes this summer, stays at home after tearing a hamstring in the final ODI against Australia. And also ruled out through injury are pace bowlers Katherine Brunt and Anya Shrubsole, and spinner Laura Marsh, while all-rounder Arran Brindle misses the tour for personal reasons.
