Sky Sports have launched a new scholarship scheme that will help support young athletes from Britain and Ireland realise their potential over the next three years.

The scheme will provide tailored support to the athletes in the early stages of their sporting careers, some of whom have medal ambitions at the next winter and summer games, by offering assistance through financial support, media training and mentoring.

The women athletes who have awarded the scholarships are:

Elise Christie (speed skating) (pictured)
Holly Bleasdale (pole vault)
Olivia Breen (sprints)
Lucy Garner (cycling)
Jessica Judd (800m)
Savannah Marshall (boxing)
Siobhan O’Connor (swimming)

Jessica Judd said, “Being a Sky Scholar is amazing - I’m just really excited to be a part of it. The support we are going to get is going to help us improve even further and that is really exciting.”

Leading the scholarship programme is former UK Athletics National Events coach Tony Lester, who will work with each athlete and their coaches to ensure that the scholarship support is tailored to the individual’s requirements.

“These scholarships will make a real difference to the careers of these athletes,” he said. “We will help deliver the right combination of performance and personal development support to ensure each athlete can help realise their potential in competition and beyond.”
