Tennis: Samantha Murray is through to the second round of US Open qualifying

Britain’s Samantha Murray has progressed into the second round of US Open qualifying with a comfortable win over Arina Rodionova of Australia 6-4 6-1.

Murray, ranked 190 in the world, took just 65 minutes to see off Rodionova and now faces American Taylor Townsend.

She will join Elena Baltacha in the second round after she beat Melanie Oudin on Tuesday.

But fellow Briton Tara Moore lost her opening qualifying match to Colombian Catalina Castano 6-4 1-6 6-4.
