Athletics: Women’s 4 X 400m relay squad through to final
With Perri Shakes-Drayton having returned to the UK for an assessment on her knee injury from the 400m hurdles final on Thursday night, a quartet of Eilidh Child, Shana Cox, Margaret Adeoye and Christine Ohuruogu took to the track looking to secure their spot in Saturday’s 4x400m relay final. Respective splits of 51.40, 51.49, 51.12 and 51.38 for an overall 3:25.41 clocking comfortably saw them through.
GB’s 800m runners didn’t share the teams success however, as both Marilyn Okoro and Laura Muir were among the semi-final casualties.
Muir knew only a personal best would do to see her through to the final and despite another strong run from the 20-year-old her 2:00.83 wasn’t enough for her to advance. A slower race didn’t suit Okoro whose time of 2:02.26 saw her also cross the line in seventh.
Elsewhere, Britain’s world indoor 100m hurdles silver medallist, Tiffany Porter won her heat to safely advance to the next round.
