We love radishes

June 21, 2024

Radishes are the ultimate snack. No, really - we love them. Not only are they peppery and delicious with a satisfying crunch; they’re the lowest calorie food you can eat. With only five calories per serving, the only other thing as low in calories is water! There are so many things you can do with radishes. This spicy little vegetable can really freshen up your summer menus.

It’s all in the crunch

You may find this hard to believe, but the crunchier your food is, the less you need to eat of it. When your snack is particularly crunchy it can help you to reduce your portion size - so you’re eating the right amount of food for you. Which is perfect if you’re in training and trying to watch your food intake.

Expert nutritionist Lowri Turner said: ‘It takes between 10 and 30 minutes for the brain to register the “I’m full” signal from our stomachs so foods that need chewing, like radishes, slow down eating; this gives our bodies time to communicate the ‘stop eating’ message.’

The hydration factor

Radishes have an incredibly high water content. With a 95 per cent water content they have the highest water content of any fruit or vegetable - making them the ideal snack for athletes. Hydration is key for maintaining focus and concentration and also to help you achieve optimal physics performance. Add some radishes to your lunch to give yourself an easy top up!

Boost your radiance

Radishes do great things to your skin. Brimming with skin-loving nutrients and minerals including high levels of Vitamin C, radishes can help to give you that natural glow that makes you feel gorgeous. Add some radishes into your weekly menu and make them part of your beauty regime.

Versatility is key

There’s more to radishes than just adding them to a simple salad. You can really mix it up. They work great as a snack, for light lunches or even as part of main meals. Try them with salmon to add a new twist to the healthy classic, or add them to beef and avocado in a mexican wrap.
