Cycling: Lizzie Armitstead heads British Cycling National Road Championships

London 2012 Olympic Games silver medallist Lizzie Armitstead will lead a world class field of Olympic and World Champions at the 2013 British Cycling National Road Championships.

take place on 20 June (Time Trial) and 23 June (Road Race) in Glasgow and East Ayrshire, and Armitstead will be looking to reclaim the title she won in 2011.

But amongst her competition will be defending champion Sharon Laws, in form Hannah Barnes and last year’s U23 champion Katie Colclough who moves up to contest the elite category.

The women’s competition will also see the entire trio from the London 2012 Olympic Games Team Pursuit winning squad, Laura Trott, Joanna Rowsell and Dani King, competing individually against the clock and each other for the title.

Upcoming talent and 2012 Junior Time Trial World Champion Elinor Barker will be another one to watch as she takes part in her first elite level national time trial championships, whilst former champion and silver medallist for the past three years, Julia Shaw, will be looking to get her hands back on the title she won in 2005.

The National Time Trial Championships will take place on Thursday 20 June in Stewarton, East Ayrshire with the women’s race starting at 15:00, finish at approximately 17:00, and cover two laps of a 17km course.

The National Road Race Championships will take place on Sunday 23 June and will start and finish at Glasgow Green, with the women’s race beginning at 09:30 and finishing at 12:30.

Highlights of the British Cycling National Road Championships will be broadcast on ITV4 on Monday 24 June at 19:00 hours.
