Events Week: Samsung World Rowing Cup

This year British Rowing are hosting the second of the three 2013 Samsung World Rowing Cup Regattas at the fantastic Olympic and Paralympic venue, Eton Dorney.
It’s the first time in eight years that the UK have hosted a leg of the prestigious event and it’s all thanks to National Lottery funding.
The women in Team GB did fantastically well in the first regatta held in March at Sydney, Australia, with the whole of Team GB bringing home four gold medals in total.
Helen Glover, who won Olympic gold in the women’s pair at London 2012, was partnering Polly Swann, and they won gold with a winning time of 7:03.55 minutes, while a second British crew of Katie Greves and Jessica Eddie came in fifth.
Kathryn Twyman and Imogen Walsh were the next British women to medal, coming home with bronze in the women’s lightweight double scull.
And then it was Frances Houghton and Victoria Meyer Laker who won bronze in the double scull, with British teammates Beth Rodford and Victoria Thornley one place behind in fourth.
And with the second regatta taking place on home waters, its set to be a hugely anticipated event, so in celebration of our ‘Events Week’ we’re giving two very lucky Sportsister members the chance to win a pair of tickets to this fab event. Click here to find out more.
If you aren’t fortunate enough to watch the rowing live, there will be coverage and highlights on BBC TV, online and on BBC Radio 5 Live.
The Samsung World Rowing Cup takes place on 21st-23rd June 2013 at Eton Dorney, Berkshire. Tickets start from £15. For more information visit www.wrcupetondorney2013.com.
