Events week: Try your hand at Volleyball at Go Spike’s Big Weekend

May 20, 2013

Sportsister’s events week is all about getting inspired to try new challenges and discover new sports, so when we found out about Go Spike’s Big Weekend, we thought it was the perfect way in which to kick off our special week.

The Go Spike campaign has been running since July 2011 and so far has encouraged a huge 36,000 people to try their hand at volleyball with 5,000 people now participating regularly.

The campaign has developed a number of initiatives which have helped to raise the profile of the sport and encourage adult participation in volleyball. Initiatives such as open club sessions, the new beach facilities and come and try taster sessions, have all proved successful in getting more people to play this fantastic sport.

So what’s the Big Weekend all about? Go Spike’s Big Weekend is running from 25 – 27 May and is the perfect opportunity for you to try your hand at volleyball.

Volleyball is the only hi-energy, zero body contact, mixed team sport you can play both indoors and outdoors, whatever your ability and for that reason we love it.

Plus it’s a hugely sociable game so a perfect opportunity in which to make new friends and be part of a new sporting community.

Whether you’ve never played before and want to give it a go, or you haven’t played since you were at school, or maybe your last holiday on the beach, the Big Weekend gives people the chance to join in with the game and take part in a few days of all things volleyball.

The weekend will see clubs and facilities across England opening up to allow anyone and everyone the chance to try the sport, be it sitting, indoor, outdoor or beach.

So far a huge 22 events have been confirmed across England so make sure you pop along to try it out, it really is so much fun.

But don’t worry if you can’t make it this weekend, Go Spike sessions will be running all year round across the country at numerous events, Volleyball Clubs and Universities so you’re sure not to miss out!

More info: For your nearest venue just visit the Go Spike website and search via your postcode.
