Tennis: Konta through to round two of Australian Open qualifying

Johanna Konta, British number four seed, is into round two of qualifying for the Australian Open having beaten Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova 6-3 6-7 (8-10) 6-4 in two hours 41 minutes.

Australian-born Konta received her British citizenship last May and has steadily been moving up through the ranks. She received a wildcard for Wimbledon last year and made it through qualifying at the US Open. She is currently ranked as number 153 in the world.

Her fellow Briton, Anne Keothavong, ranked 142 in the world, however went out in straight sets to American Grace Min (7-5 7-5).

Konta goes into the second qualifying round to meet China’s Yi-Miao Zhou, ranked number 169, on Friday.
