Hannah Miley narrowly missed out on a second medal at the 2012 World Short Course Championships as she finished fourth in the 800m Freestyle in Istanbul.

The Garioch swimmer, who won 400m Individual Medley gold on the opening day in Turkey, clocked 8:16.09 in her ‘fast’ heat, losing out by just 0.56 to USA’s Chloe Sutton in bronze.
After the race, Miley, who won 800m Freestyle silver at last month’s European Short Course Championships, said she was happy with how she raced. “That was only 0.5 off my personal best I swam at Euros,” she commented.
“I might have gone out a little bit harder than I expected but that’s just experience of racing 800s. It’s such a high standard here and I’m used to doing it at district or national level so it’s a whole different kettle of fish at international level.
“So I’m really happy with that. Someone has to come fourth but it’s fine – it was close to my best.”
Competing at her first senior World Championships, Ellie Faulkner was also in action in the 800m Freestyle, finishing seventh in 8:22.96.
Georgia Davies set a Welsh record to finish fifth in the first individual World final of her career.
Davies lowered her national record from the semi-finals, clocking 57.32 to finish just 0.14 shy of the podium places.
“Going in third gives you the idea that you could possibly sneak a medal but on the other hand it was my first World Short Course,” said Davies.
“I progressed through the rounds, set a new Welsh record and I can’t be too disappointed with that at this early point of the season, especially after quite a long break after the Olympics.
“Coming here I’m trying for best times and to improve as I go through the rounds rather than giving everything at the early stages.”
Finally, Sophie Allen booked a spot in her first individual world final, qualifying sixth fastest from the 100m Individual Medley semis in 59.58 after a PB 59.20 in the morning heats.
