18-year-old Briton, Laura Robson, was named the top newcomer to the WTA circuit this year.
She had a breakthrough season winning a silver medal in the mixed doubles with Andy Murray at the Olympics. She also reached the last 16 at the US Open, with victories over Kim Clijsters and Li Na, and made her first WTA final in Guangzhau, China, making her the first Briton to reach a WTA final in 22 years.
The award is voted on by members of the tennis media and previous winners include Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Petra Kvitova and Caroline Wozniacki.
Robson said: “2012 has been a very enjoyable year for me and I look forward to building on the progress that I have made in 2012 and the season ahead.”
She has finished this season ranked at 53rd in the world rankings.
