Hannah Miley produced a lifetime best and new British record as she began her short course season with a silver medal in the 200m individual medley at the European Championships in France yesterday.
The 23-year-old touched in 2:06.21 for her hard-fought medal to separate the Hungarian pair of Katinka Hosszu in 2:05.78 and Zsuzsanna Jakabos in 2:06.66 at the L’Odysse Pool in Chartres.
Teenage British team mate Siobhan-Marie O’Connor finished her first senior short course final in fourth in a new best time of 2:08.85.
Speaking after the race, Miley said: “I’m satisfied with that performance. I’ve got a busy week ahead and am training through it so to swim so quickly is good.
“I’ve changed my training programme and it’s showing it works. Every season we change things slightly and I’m pleased with the effect it’s had.”
The 17-strong British contingent, a combination of Olympians and talented young athletes identified as having the potential for Rio 2016, had a strong start to the meet with 20 personal best times on day one.
The European Championships are being held at The Odyssey Complex in Chartres from November 22-25. You can catch some of the action on British Eurosport 1 HD this weekend, with live and delayed action on Saturday (1545-1700) and Sunday (1600-1700).
