Cycling: Glasgow World Cup Day 3

The final days action the the UCI Track World Cup event in Glasgow saw a victorious Laura Trott bring home gold in the women’s Omnium.

In dramatic style, it all came down to final event – the 500m time trial where Olympic and World champion Laura Trott had to beat rival Ashlee Ankudinoff from Australia by two places to secure gold.
Trott gave everything she had and it paid off, she finished with the second fastest time behind Russian Tamara Balabolina which was enough to secure gold and bring the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome crowd to their feet. Balabolina’s victory in the final event also secured her a bronze medal, with Ashlee Ankudinoff going home with the silver.
In the Keirin Becky James qualified for the final and was unlucky not to finish on the podium after leading out after the exit of the derny. James finished 5th, whilst Jess Varnish finished 9th overall after taking 3rd place in the second final.
The gold medal went to Germany’s Kristina Vogel, her second, after taking the Sprint title on Saturday night. Silver went to Ekaterina Gnidenko, racing for the Petroholding Leningrad team, and bronze went to Hong Kong’s Wai Sze Lee.
