Sportsister’s guide to what to watch and who to look out for on another busy day of competition for Team GB at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Athletics
09:30 Women’s High Jump Qualifying Rounds
There was no British athlete entered for this event but look out for Deirdre Ryan competing for the Republic of Ireland.
19:30 Women’s 800m Semi-finals
The sole representative for GB is Lynsey Sharp who was controversially selected although four other athletes ran faster then her. The one to watch will be South Africa’s Caster Semenya.
20:20 Women’s 4 x 100m Relay Round 1
The British will not be competing in this event after being disqualified in the European Championships semi-finals. The battle for gold will be between Jamaica and the USA.
20:55 Men’s 200m Final
It will once again be a battle of the Jamaican’s with Bolt v Blake. Team GB’s Christian Malcolm will hope to cause an upset and pick up a medal in front of his home crowd.
21:00 Women’s Javelin Throw Final
There are no British representatives in this as Goldie Sayer’s recent elbow injury affected her throw and she was unable to make the qualifying distance. The favourite for gold will be Barbora Spotakova who recorded the longest throw in the heats.
Boxing
16:30 Women’s Fly (51kg) Final Bout
Team GB’s Nicola Adams will be battling it out for that gold medal as she takes on China’s Ren Cancan in the final, a fighter she has beaten only once in three encounters.
Canoe Sprint
10:15 Women’s Kayak Single (K1) 500m Final A
Rachel Cawthorn of Great Britain goes for gold on the waters of Eaton Dorney. Her biggest competition will come from Hungary’s Danuta Kozak.
10:35 Women’s Kayak Double (K2) 500m Final B
The British duo of Abigail Edmonds and Louisa Sawers missed out on the chance for a medal in the A final but will hope to end their Olympic campaign on a high in this race.
Diving
10:00 Women’s 10m Platform Semi-Final
Stacie Powell and Monique Gladding will be aiming to make it into the top 12 and progress to the final at 19:00. The Chinese will once again be favourites for gold in the form of Ruolin Chen and Yadan Hu.
Equestrian
12:30 Dressage Individual Grand Prix Freestyle
The Dressage team gold medallists of Laura Bechtolsheimer, Carl Hester and Charlotte Dujardin will all take part in this event and will all be in the hunt for medals. Dujardin qualified in first position with Hester in third and Bechtolsheimer in fifth so there is a high chance that at least one of the riders will add another medal to their team gold.
Hockey
20:00 Men’s Semi-Finals
Team GB take on the Netherlands in the second semi-final of the day with the aim of making the gold medal match on Saturday. The Dutch will go in as slight favourites as they are ranked one place higher then the Brits. The winner will either play Australia or Germany in the final.
Rhythmic Gymnastics
12:00 Individual All-Round Qualification
Francesca Jones of Great Britain will hope to qualify for the final on Saturday. Jones will perform with each piece of apparatus and will have to make the top ten to get into the final.
14:50 Group All-Round Qualification
The British team only reached the Olympics after appealing their exclusion by British Gymnastics and will have to perform their best ever routines to make the top eight and reach the final on Sunday. They will perform two routines: one with five balls and one using three ribbons and two hoops.
Sailing
13:00 Men’s 470 Medal Race
The British duo of Luke Patience and Malcolm Page go into the medal race in silver medal position, one point behind the Australians who lead and have real hopes of securing a medal.
Swimming
12:00 Women’s 10km Marathon
Beijing silver medallist in this event, Keri-Anne Payne of Great Britain, is the favourite for gold in this race as reigning world champion. She was the first athlete to qualify for London 2012 and will want to go one better then her silver medal four years ago.
Synchronised Swimming
15:00 Teams Technical Routine
The British team aim to try and achieve a large score before their free routine on Friday. The main challenge for gold will come from the teams of Russia and China.
Taekwondo
10:30 Women’s -57kg Preliminary Round
Team GB’s Jade Jones takes on Dragana Gladovic from Serbia in for her first fight of the Olympic Games. Gladovic will go into the fight as favourite but with a home crowd behind Jones, she may be able to pull off a shock and move towards the gold medal match at 22:15.
Water Polo
14:30 Women’s Classification 7th-8th Place
Team GB take on Italy in the last match of their Olympic campaign. They have already met Italy in this tournament, losing 10-5, so will hope to pull off a win and end their London 2012 tournament on a high.
Wrestling
13:00 Women’s 55kg Freestyle
Great Britain’s only athlete in the wrestling competition is Ukrainian born Olga Butkevych. She won silver in the test event in December and will be aiming to be in the gold medal match at later in the day.
