Diving: Gladding and Powell miss semi-finals

Team GB’s women divers exited in the preliminary rounds of the 10 metre platform today (Wednesday) at the Aquatics Centre.

Monique Gladding and Stacie Powell finished in 19th and 20th respectively, with only the top 18 continuing through to the semi-finals tomorrow (Thursday).

And for Powell, it was a case of just a few tenths of a second that cost her place:

“In diving, split seconds make all the difference but other than that if it was a tenth of a second later then I’d be in there and that’s what makes it a brutal sport,” said Powell.

“I tried to come back well from my second dive and I was really pleased with all my dives after that.”

Team GB’s divers now look forward to Tom Daley in the men’s 10 metre platform event which begins on Friday.
