Shooting: Team GB’s McIntosh and Kerwood miss out

August 4, 2012

Team GB shooters Jen McIntosh and Charlotte Kerwood missed out on a place in the final at the Royal Artillery Barracks.

McIntosh, 21, from Edinburgh, the youngest member of Team GB’s shooting squad, finished 42nd in the 50-metre rifle competition with a score of 570 from a possible 600 points in the event where competitors shoot prone, kneeling and standing.

In the women’s trap competition, three-time world champion Kerwood, 25, from Cuckfield, finished 16th with a score of 64 which was nine points off stage winner Jessica Rossi of Italy.

McIntosh said: “The conditions weren’t too easy but I should be able to cope with that by now, it’s pretty tense out on the range with some high scores.

“But I enjoyed it, I really enjoy shooting. I’m kind of glad that it’s done now – I felt like I performed well overall and did everything I could. That’s all I can ask.”

Qualifying for the final was led by America’s Jamie Lynn Gray with a score of 592, just two points outside the world record.

Kerwood said: “I did my best and really enjoyed it, it’s been a fantastic experience, I think the crowd were amazing. Every time I hit one, the crowd were really loud … it was great.
