Judo: Karina Bryant one win away from medal

Great Britain’s success in judo continues today as Karina Bryant has fought her way to the semi-finals of the women’s over-78kg at the ExCeL.

After an incredible run which saw her put out Sonia Asselah of Algeria in her first contest and go on to edge past third-seeded Slovenian Lucija Polavder and defeat Kazakhstan’s Gulzhan Issanova, the 32-year-old is now just one win away from claiming Great Britain’s second Olympic judo medal in 24 hours.

A silver-winning performance from Gemma Gibbons yesterday finally ended GB’s 12-year quest for Olympic success in the martial art and Bryant continued that form to shine in front of an electric crowd.

Digging deep, Bryant followed a couple of penalties with a Waza-ari score to book her place in the semi-finals later this afternoon at around 14:20.
