Wildcard mixed doubles pairing Andy Murray and Laura Robson claimed a thrilling Team GB victory in the first round in front of a boisterous No.1 Court crowd at Wimbledon this evening (Thursday).
They beat Lucie Hradecka and Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic 7-5, 6-7, 10-7 to set up a second round clash with Australia’s Lleyton Hewitt and Sam Stosur on Friday.
Afterwards, Murray said: “Lleyton and Sam will be tough. Lleyton is known for his singles game but he is also an excellent doubles player. He has won slam doubles tournaments before and Sam was no 1 doubles player in the world.”
Partner Robson admitted to nerves playing doubles. “You are playing with another person so you always have pressure to make balls for them. But it was a lot of fun.”
